Tonight, Biko was going with Woods to a black township outside East London. Mamphela thought it is not worth to take the risk because she worried Biko might get caught.  But Biko said “We won’t get caught. “ Then Biko talked to Woods to wait for car to drive him. A few minutes later a black taxi drove up and took Woods to the township. The car was a black taxi.

Black taxis were usually very old cars and usually carried as many passengers as they could. There was an atmosphere of fun and adventure in the taxi as the men joked with each other. But as the taxi reached the black township outside East London, the mood changed.

They were all silent, Woods looked at all those black faces around streets, tired and unsmiling, he felt that the whole black world, which he had believed he knew so well, had a life he was totally unaware of. Then Woods walked with Biko. They turned a corner and saw a little boy running so fast that to avoid a danger.

They talked a lot of things about Biko. Woods started to think maybe Biko’s ideal is not a wrong thing.
